Marvel is looking for a new actor to replace Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark

Yes, we are aware that what we are saying seems absurd and perhaps blasphemous, but hold your breath while we explain. As you might expect given the present state of events in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there is a twist to the news that Marvel is seeking for a new actor to replace Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. Our insider informs us that Marvel is seeking a younger actor — in their twenties or thirties — to play a younger version of Stark from another reality rather than reviving the Tony Stark who passed away in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. In the two future special events Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, the youthful Iron Man will make an appearance.

Tom Cruise may have come to some fans’ minds when they learned that Marvel wanted to replace Robert Downey Jr., but given how young the company wants to go, it seems that the Mission: Impossible star is no longer in the running. Sadly, we are unable to yet reveal who will portray this younger version of Tony Stark due to Marvel’s meticulous casting practices, but we can give you one name of a performer who is nearly surely in the running: Joseph Quinn, widely known as Netflix’s Eddie Munson, a brave character.

Joseph Quinn bears a remarkable resemblance to a young Robert Downey, Jr., despite the fact that it can be challenging to notice because we’re used to seeing Quinn with long hair and dressed like a Midwestern metalhead. However, we can’t claim to have discovered the similarities first. As Pop Buzz reported in June, fans who were falling in love with Eddie Munson recognized the similarity nearly as soon as Stranger Things’ fourth season began streaming and fan-cast Quinn for a prospective Robert Downey Jr. biopic. To be clear, although we are aware that Marvel is trying to cast a new, younger Tony Stark, we are unable to confirm that Joseph Quinn is being considered. But given the parallels, Quinn’s acting prowess, and the notoriety he has gained since his Stranger Things appearance, we can say with certainty that they would be crazy to overlook him. In the tweets below, you can see some fans contrasting the actors.

Young Avengers #1, which featured a cast of younger heroes with similarities to current Avengers in terms of appearance and abilities, debuted in 2005. In the end, it is discovered that Iron Lad is a different character from Tony Stark. He is a spoof of Kang the Conqueror, also known as Nathaniel Richards.
