Even though Johnny Depp is no longer a part of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise due to his dismissal by Disney following assault charges leveled against him by his ex-wife, Amber Heard, there is still a way for him to be associated with it. Jack Sparrow, the legendary pirate, was played by the actor.
It was recently rumoured that a new Jack Sparrow film, now in development, would continue the multibillion-dollar franchise sans Depp. But what exactly are we talking about when we say that the Edward Scissorhands actor is still linked to the films?
The island where Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed is owned by Johnny Depp. For the uninitiated, the film series was primarily shot on location. This implies that Depp and the rest of the Disney actors have spent a significant amount of time in the Caribbean. According to one source, the actor fell in love with the island and even bought it in 2004.
Johnny Depp spent $3.6 million for the Pirates of the Caribbean island, which he christened ‘Little Hall’s Pond Cay.’ It had no structure before, but now it is home to a ranch-style house with 360-degree views. The Charlie and the Chocolate Factory star is also said to have spent an additional $8 million on a private yacht that will transport him to and from the island whenever he wishes.
According to Express, Depp said, “I don’t think I’d ever seen any place so pure and beautiful. You can feel your pulse rate drop about 20 beats. It’s instant freedom” and added that the island purchase was important for the actor as “escapism is survival to him”.
According to the source, the island also includes six white-sand beaches named after Johnny Depp’s family members, including his children Lily-Rose and Jack, as well as his ex-wife Vanessa Paradis. On the beach, he even named it after his late buddy and author Hunter S Thompson.
