A cash cow franchise can only be kept away for so long, and now we have a brand new trailer for “Minions: The Rise of Gru.” Though technically a precursor to 2015’s “Minions,” this is essentially a return of the “Despicable Me” franchise in the form of a prequel showing us, as the title indicates, Gru’s ascent to power.
It’s a little bit of the best of both worlds, as we get the figure that launched the series, as well as some Minions branding. Let’s have a look at it, shall we?
This appears to be, for the most part, the movie that anyone entering the fifth installment of this franchise could anticipate. There are a lot of family-friendly humor, evildoers doing bad things, Minions doing Minions things, and a lot of animated action in this film. The soundtrack for the trailer is provided by Eminem, which is maybe the most surprise aspect. But, except from that, everything is just as expected.
Taraji P. Henson, Michelle Yeoh, RZA, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Lucy Lawless, Dolph Lundgren, Danny Trejo, Russell Brand, Julie Andrews, and Alan Arkin are among the cast members. Kyle Balda, who directed both “Minions” and “Despicable Me 3,” is in charge of the project. Brad Ableson (“The Simpsons”) and Jonathan del Val are also co-directors (“The Secret Life of Pets”)
